Advantages and disadvantages of PET self-adhesive and PVC self-adhesive materials

Both PET self-adhesive and PVC self-adhesive fall under the category of self-adhesive materials. Due to the similar performance of PET self-adhesive and PVC self-adhesive, they are often compared when making a purchase.

PVC is more flexible and soft to the touch than PET, and is often used in some high-end occasions such as the jewelry, watch, electronics and metal industries. Waterproof, oil-proof, non-tear-resistant, heat-resistant (the heat resistance of different materials varies), and PVC is non-flammable, resistant to climate change, and has good geometric stability. It has strong resistance to oxidants, reductants and strong acids, and is suitable for long-term outdoor use.

However, during the manufacturing process of PVC, toxic auxiliary materials such as plasticizers and anti-aging agents are used to enhance its heat resistance, toughness and ductility. Therefore, its products are generally not used to store food and medicine. Moreover, PVC self-adhesive has poor degradability, which has a negative impact on environmental protection. Some developed countries abroad have begun to work on the research and development of substitutes in this regard.

The main raw materials of PET ethylene glycol (EG) and terephthalic acid (PTA) are widely used as fibers and can be classified into non-engineering plastic grade and engineering plastic grade. PET is hard and brittle. Common colors include matte silver, matte white, and bright white, etc. PET self-adhesive is waterproof, oil-resistant, not easy to tear and heat-resistant. It is applicable to industries such as electronics, home appliances, automobiles, and chemicals. And it has good natural degradability, and is receiving increasing attention from manufacturers.

PET self-adhesive is widely used in various industries due to its many excellent properties. In terms of environmental protection, PET self-adhesive is better than PVC self-adhesive as an environmentally friendly material. However, PVC has non-flammability, high strength, resistance to climate change, and excellent geometric stability. It also has strong resistance to oxidants, reductants, and strong acids. Therefore, both have their own advantages.
