PE self-adhesive tape is a self-adhesive material based on polyethylene (Polyethylene, abbreviated as PE). It is made by coating a pressure-sensitive adhesive (such as acrylic glue, rubber-based glue) on the surface of the PE film and then bonding it with a release paper. Its structure consists of a PE base material, a adhesive layer, and a release layer. It belongs to a type of label consumable made of thermoplastic materials. PE materials are classified into low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), etc., and the PE base material of self-adhesive PE tape is mostly soft LDPE or linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which has certain flexibility.
Characteristics of PE self-adhesive tape
1. Physical properties: Balance of flexibility and weather resistance
Softness and extensibility: The PE base material has a soft texture and can be bent and folded without cracking, suitable for attaching to curved or irregular surfaces (such as hoses, circular bottle bodies), and is not prone to cracking due to deformation.
Outstanding low-temperature resistance: It can maintain flexibility at -40℃, does not harden or crack easily, and is suitable for labels for frozen food and refrigerated medicines.
Water resistance and moisture-proof: PE itself does not absorb water, and the adhesive layer is treated for waterproofing, so the label is not likely to fall off in a humid environment, suitable for bathroom products and aquatic product packaging.
2. Chemical and environmental adaptability
Resistance to general chemical substances: It has certain resistance to weak acids, weak alkalis, and oils, but has poor resistance to strong solvents (such as acetone, toluene may cause swelling), suitable for labels for daily consumer products.
Medium weather resistance: The UV resistance is relatively weak, and long-term outdoor exposure may cause aging and fading, suitable for indoor or short-term outdoor use (such as temporary labels for express packages).
3. Surface and printing characteristics
Non-polar surface: The surface tension of the PE base material is low, and the ink adhesion is poor. Usually, it needs to undergo corona treatment or coating treatment to improve the printing effect and avoid pattern detachment or blurring.
Selectability of transparency and texture: PE self-adhesive tape can be produced in transparent, semi-transparent or opaque forms. Some products have a frosted texture, suitable for minimalist packaging (such as skincare products, daily necessities).
4. Adhesive and processing characteristics
Adhesive compatibility: Mostly use low-viscosity or removable adhesives, which are easy to peel and do not leave residue, suitable for temporary sticking scenarios (such as promotional labels, sample identifiers).
Easy processing and environmental friendliness: It can be processed into various shapes through heat sealing, die-cutting, etc. PE materials can be recycled (recycling symbol #2), but attention should be paid to the impact of the adhesive layer on recycling.
