The matte film is a specialized type of varnish film, belonging to a functional film material with relatively low surface gloss. Its surface undergoes special treatments (such as sanding, micro-texture pressing, or matte coating processes), presenting a soft and non-reflective texture, contrasting with the glossy film. The matte film is adhered to the surface of printed materials through composite or coating processes, mainly used to enhance the premium feel of products, protect the printed content, and be endowed with physical properties such as scratch resistance and water resistance according to application scenarios. It is widely used in packaging, publications, advertising, and other fields with high requirements for texture.
Core characteristics of matte film:
1. Optical properties: Low gloss and soft texture
Matte surface: The gloss is usually lower than 10° (measured at a 60° incident angle), the surface reflects light in a diffuse manner, with no obvious reflection, presenting a delicate and restrained visual effect.
No blocking of printed colors: Although it is a matte effect, the high transparency of high-quality matte films can reach over 90%, ensuring the color saturation of the printed patterns, and forming a visual contrast through "matte background + local brightening process" (such as the local brightening treatment of the LOGO on packaging).
2. Physical properties: Wear-resistant and touch sensation optimization
Wear-resistant and scratch-resistant: The film layer hardness is generally 1-2H, the micro-texture structure on the surface can reduce obvious scratches during friction (such as the books' covers not leaving marks after long-term flipping).
Soft touch: The surface has a fine sanding or velvet texture, providing a gentle touch experience, suitable for high-end product packaging (such as luxury gift boxes, high-end picture albums).

3. Chemical and environmental adaptability
